Mahathir, What Kind Of' 'Leg Up' Were You Talking About?

Mahathir said that his government finally decided not to accede to ICERD because he wanted to give the Malays a leg up.

Why then, in the first place, go all the way to the UN to grandstand about ratifying the rest of the UN conventions that Bolehland have yet to accede to?

Nobody is against giving the needy a leg up to help them compete, irrespective of race.

But what kind of a leg up are we talking about? And how shall the assistance be rendered?

We have the NEP, for instance, that was specifically conceived to help the Malays in giving them a leg up. It is now close to a century since, and still the Malays are said to be behind?

What went wrong?

The country needs to find out why after nearly half a century of positive assistance, the Malays are said to still be lagging behind?

If there was something wrong in the implementation of the NEP shouldn't we worry about it and put in place a better and more certain way of helping the Malays?

At the end of the day, people should be proud to earn their own upkeep by working hard and not have to rely on band-aid and clutches to survive.

Or told that they will forever have to rely on the government to stand on their own two feet. Beholden and tied to the state's apron strings and those who wield them the better for the latter to keep themselves in power in perpetuity. No?

Hehehe.......

At the end of the day, it is all about human dignity and pride.

And that is what ICERD is all about at its core.

Kluang was a sleepy hollow, but is fast becoming a bustling town. You can't miss the bust-shaped gunung Lambak lording over the place and the town is well known for its tv brand coffee powder

Kluang RailCoffee
The Kluang railway station coffee shop, now re-branded Kluang RailCoffee, is well known for its cuppa of coffee and the charcaol grilled piping hot buns oozing with butter and kaya...It used to attract standing-room only crowds. It still does, but the last time I was there it wasn't a good experience for me. The famous coffee had somewhat lost its oomph and even the buns...The shop has a long and noted history being first opened for business in 1938 and the place is now run by the 3rd generation LIm family. I hope the next time I return, the coffee would regain its oomph. Click to read more...
