The Uncertainty Over Whether Mahathir Will Pass The Baton To Anwar Must Be Put To Rest

Now that Anwar has resoundingly won the PD parliamentary by-election, the uncertainty over whether Mahathir intends to honour the agreement to pass the baton to Anwar as the 8th Bolehland Pm must be put to rest.

It won't do for the situation to remain unresolved. What the supposed new Bolehland needs is certainty in the succession equation.

The trouble is that Mahathir himself has cast doubt as to whether he really intends to honour the agreement by saying that it was not written in stone,  that he might stay longer beyond two years as long as the people wanted him to.

The trouble is that Mahathir thinks the world of himself. To him, nobody else is fit to be the Bolehland Pm. Only Mahathir himself is qualified.

Remember Musa Hitam, Mahathir's first deputy?

Mahathir's administration then, was known as the 2M administration. Probably feeling threatened and slighted for his administration to be known as the 2M administration, Mahathir maneuvered ? to make Musa's position uncomfortable, leading to Musa resigning as the deputy Pm.

The pattern continued. Ghafar Baba, Mahathir's second deputy Pm, had to make way for Anwar, who himself was later sacked, again when Maha the Great felt threatened.

Only this time, it took an ugly turn when Mahathir had Anwar charged and jailed for an offence the doctors said nyet, nyet, no proof of penetration lah hahaha.....

Then, when Maha the Great himself was no longer perceived as so great but a liability to the party he led for 22 donkey years and had to eventually give way to Badawi who, as the successor, was not fond of Maha's pet projects including the crooked bridge to nowhere thingy down south that was supposed to replace the Johore Causeway, Maha the now not so great but still having influence, hounded Badawi out of office with the connivance of Ah Jib Kor ? who succeeded Badawi.

This time too, Maha was not happy with the successor to the successor and worked with the opposition to donkey-kick him and dUMNo into the dustbin of history. Except this time, no one is shedding a tear lah hehehe.....

With this history, can anyone really trust Mahathir to hand over the baton to Anwar willingly?

They say even among thieves, there is this thing called honour. What should one expect of a Pm, one who would love to be called a statesman and has indeed been called so by some people?

Still, whether you are a die-hard Maha cheerleader or not, leaving the question of who would succeed him hanging in the air is not a good thing for Bolehland.

Everyone is urging Anwar to tread cautiously, not be seen to do anything that will give the impression that he is in a hurry to take over and in the process upset Maha the Great. Aisayman, 20 years in the waiting is a hurry? Remember, Maha the Great would not be the 7th Pm were it not for Anwar & Co and by agreement of the PH coalition.

No matter how you try to put it, Mahathir and Pribumi did not win the 14th GE. Tell the cows how winning 13 seats vis-a-vis Anwar's Keadilan's 50 and Dap's 45 despite both the latter contesting less seats than Mahathir's Pribumi equated to Mahathir single-handedly winning the election? Or even Amanah's 8 seats won despite contesting only 27 compared to Pribum's 53?

Well, I say it is time for some firmness. Mahathir is not young anymore to put it diplomatically. It is time he he awakes to the truth that there are people who are as qualified to be the Pm as he thinks highly of himself to be, if not better.

After all, things have moved on. Mahathir's ideas are passe - they might have worked during his first premiership.

Now they seem so old school, dated and shrivelled, like the hankering to still look to the setting Nippon sun for inspiration when it should be to the Dragon Kingdom for inspiration instead.

Or the hankering to start another national car project, the first having failed so miserably that it had to be sold to Chinese firm Neely that no one had heard of before.

Or crony capitalism, making new millionaires of a favoured, lucky, connected few, now wrapped up in new ketuanan garb?

Dunno about you.

Me, I say it is time for new directions and leadership.

But, nevertheles, we record our appreciation to the man for what good he had done for Bolehland

And, to be honest, those were not few in terms of physical developments.

The Kluang railway station coffee shop, now re-branded Kluang RailCoffee, is well known for its cuppa of coffee and the charcaol grilled piping hot buns oozing with butter and kaya...It used to attract standing-room only crowds. It still does, but the last time I was there it wasn't a good experience for me. The famous coffee had somewhat lost its oomph and even the buns...The shop has a long and noted history being first opened for business in 1938 and the place is now run by the 3rd generation LIm family. I hope the next time I return, the coffee would regain its oomph. Click to read more...
