Mariam, you are right!
Why indeed are we so eager to grant citizenship to foreigners playing in Malaysian football teams?
You have asked and posed the right questions.
Many of the state football teams and the so-called national team look more like foreign ones.
Nothing resembling Malaysian leh.
In fact, there is nothing to be proud of as Malaysians then.
We can be truly proud if indeed the national football team, for example, win when we can identity the team as Malaysian in composition like in those days in the 70s and early 80s when we dominated the football scene in Asia.
With Malaysian legends like Mokthar Dahari, Soh Chin Ann, Santokh Singh, Arumugan and gang.
Today, the Malaysian national team, for example, is unreognisable as Malaysian in composition.
In fact, we should be ashamed of ourselves for calling such a mishmash team as Malaysian.
Today, too, we hardly have any non Malay Malaysian players in state teams or the national team.
Why?
Has that got to do with racial discrimination at play even in sports.
But we have no qualms luring foreigners to play for the state teams and national team and granting citizenship to them post haste pronto, no?
When even segments of our people face difficulty gaining citizenship?
