Professor Tajuddin : Islamic Reformation Wave That Took Malaysia Off Track

So Anwar failed as an Islamic reformist for a more progressive Islam

Instead, his movement spawned many other movements that eventually became more conservative that has led to what is happening today.

With the east coast states of Terengganu and Kelantan leading the way to the practice of Islam more akin to the Talibanic kind.

What with gender segregation in grocery stores and supermarkets, football stadiums, the ban on wearing bermuda shorts in public and the recent incident of not allowing female performers at a Chinese temple do and what else have you.

There was no gender segregation on the Klang valley commuter train coaches and commuters had no problem with that.

Now, for a number of years already, gender segregation on commuter train coaches has become a feature, separating even same family members.

Is that a consequence of growing religious conservatism?

Even as Anwar's so-called progressive Islamic movement took off and things began to look far from what was envisaged, as the practice of Islam took on a more and more intolerant and conservative slant, did anyone in power do anything to correct the trend?

Apparently no.

For when it comes to faith, unfortunately, people tend to stop thinking for fear of being seen or perceived as anti one's faith.

So, today, we have unscrupulous politicians who happily exploit faith as a vote garner and have no qualms nor hesitation calling other 'kafirs,' or their political opponents 'karfir harbi' and even  resorting to conducting 'Qunut Nazilah' prayers in Parliament against fellow Muslims in the government

Altogether a sad, sad development.

Where will it all lead to in the end?

Malaysia turning into a Talibanic country?

Ai ya ya!!

Kluang was a sleepy hollow, but is fast becoming a bustling town. You can't miss the bust-shaped gunung Lambak lording over the place and the town is well known for its tv brand coffee powder

Kluang RailCoffee
The Kluang railway station coffee shop, now re-branded Kluang RailCoffee, is well known for its cuppa of coffee and the charcaol grilled piping hot buns oozing with butter and kaya...It used to attract standing-room only crowds. It still does, but the last time I was there it wasn't a good experience for me. The famous coffee had somewhat lost its oomph and even the buns...The shop has a long and noted history being first opened for business in 1938 and the place is now run by the 3rd generation LIm family. I hope the next time I return, the coffee would regain its oomph. Click to read more...
