As it is, it is easy to just hammer the Middle Kingdom for not acting as quickly as it should and not being transparent enough. For to do this does not require any special qualification.
Now, many people are using Dr's Li's tragic death as a further excuse to vent their fury and curse the Chinese authorities for allegedly failing in their duties. That is a very human thing to do when you are faced with an unknown new virus that spreads asymptomatically and can cause deaths.
But in the midst all the fear, anger and confusion, perhaps a less emotional and a more balanced evaluation of a hero now held dear might better serve everyone's purpose.
I have not seen a better evaluation this Nathan Rich's.
