Happy CNY! 新年快乐!

 新年快乐! 

 The balik kampung (exodus back home) for the Chinese New Year is in full swing.

As usual, the roads and highways out of the city are choked with traffic.

As usual, some impatient drivers, sleepy-heads and poorly serviced or maintained vehicles will be causing accidents.

Last year, we were caught in a traffic snarl going north. This year, I am staying put until perhaps the third or fourth day of the CNY to head south.

But have you noticed that the year of the snake has made some politicians nervous.

So, we have pink lips and grinning face on the cover of CNY red packets. The same pink lips and grinning face is also seen as the drummer of a Chinese lion dance troupe in a Chinese New Year advertisement!!

This had never happened before with the past Pms of Malaysia.

Malaysians just want to be left alone to celebrate their festivals without being reminded of under-performing politicians desperate to be noticed and hoping to be re-elected.

The Kluang railway station coffee shop, now re-branded Kluang RailCoffee, is well known for its cuppa of coffee and the charcaol grilled piping hot buns oozing with butter and kaya...It used to attract standing-room only crowds. It still does, but the last time I was there it wasn't a good experience for me. The famous coffee had somewhat lost its oomph and even the buns...The shop has a long and noted history being first opened for business in 1938 and the place is now run by the 3rd generation LIm family.
