Chinese New Year Used To Mean...

CNY (Chinese New Year) is just around the corner. - this year, on the 10th to be exact, and usually celebrated for 15 days till Chap Goh Mei.
Pink Lips And Grinning Face

It is a happy time, except for those who have to dish out ang pows (red packets with money in them).

For these guys and gals, it can be a harrowing period especially when your battery level is low on the money front.

For those on the receiving end, ang pows are not just friends that make you grin from ear to ear, the bigger them are and the more, the merrier, but also what makes CNY delicious.

Of course!

It is that time of the year that we want to find money in and fu 福 (the Chinese word and symbol of good fortune and/or blessing) on the red packets.

Not empty ones with the face of a politician.

Not, especially when these come unsolicited in your mail box with pink lips and grinning face.

Politicians should not try to intrude into every aspect of the people's lives.

You may have pink lips and a grinning face, but the Chinese don't associate these with CNY.

When the Chinese think of CNY, they think of family reunion, kam (mandarin oranges), food, firecrackers, lion dance and, of course, the stuffed red packets sans pink lips and grin.

Here's Wishing All My Chinese Readers And All Malaysians And Anyone Else For That Matter, An Early

Yasmin Ahmad was arguably Malaysia's best story-teller, filmmaker and advertiser. She was well known for her Petronas commercials and had won numerous international awards including the Golden Lion award for the 'Tan Ming Hong In Love' commercial. Her feature film Sepet not only garnered her several international awards including for Best Asian Film but also drew multi-racial audiences that rarely happens for a local film.

Kluang was a sleepy hollow, but is fast becoming a bustling town. You can't miss the bust-shaped gunung Lambak lording over the place and the town is well known for its tv brand coffee powder

Kluang RailCoffee
The Kluang railway station coffee shop, now re-branded Kluang RailCoffee, is well known for its cuppa of coffee and the charcaol grilled piping hot buns oozing with butter and kaya...It used to attract standing-room only crowds. It still does, but the last time I was there it wasn't a good experience for me. The famous coffee had somewhat lost its oomph and even the buns...The shop has a long and noted history being first opened for business in 1938 and the place is now run by the 3rd generation LIm family. I hope the next time I return, the coffee would regain its oomph. Click to read more...
