Sis's Birthday

I was away for a few days in Kluang, for my elder sister's birthday. We had a 8-course Chinese dinner at Chin Chin Restaurant. It had been booked for a Chinese wedding on the same day, 14th May, but my elder brother had been able to book a room for two tables where we all gathered to celebrate my elder sister's birthday.

In the midst of the revelry, I only managed to snap a picture of the cold dish.

The Cold Dish
I particularly liked the chicken in Chinese wine wrapped in tin foils, but the rest of the cold dish tasted good too. Of the rest of the 8-course dinner, I also liked the roasted duck with the crisp skin and the tiger prawns.

Before the dinner we had our lunch at the "Old Taste" kopitiam at the Kluang Mall. Again, because  we siblings were busy catching up with each other, I only managed to take a picture of the fried rice.

Fried Rice
I must say that the food at Old Taste Kopitiam tasted better than the fare offered by the more popular Old Town Kopitiam. Even the plain fried rice pictured above tasted good.

We were lucky that the Mall held a vintage cars exhibition that day. Below are some pictures of the vintage cars.

Kluang was a sleepy hollow, but is fast becoming a bustling town. You can't miss the bust-shaped gunung Lambak lording over the place and the town is well known for its tv brand coffee powder

Kluang RailCoffee
The Kluang railway station coffee shop, now re-branded Kluang RailCoffee, is well known for its cuppa of coffee and the charcaol grilled piping hot buns oozing with butter and kaya...It used to attract standing-room only crowds. It still does, but the last time I was there it wasn't a good experience for me. The famous coffee had somewhat lost its oomph and even the buns...The shop has a long and noted history being first opened for business in 1938 and the place is now run by the 3rd generation LIm family. I hope the next time I return, the coffee would regain its oomph. Click to read more...
