At the World Youth Day programme at Putrajaya on Saturday 28 April, PM Najib was reported to have asked youths gathered there to defend Putrajaya.
This has shocked many Malaysians.
Putrajaya is the administrative center of the Malaysian government.
Defend Putrajaya against who? Where, who are the enemies? Is Malaysia under attack?
Obviously Najib meant to defend Putrajaya against the opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat.
But Pakatan is not an enemy of Putrajaya. In a democracy, surely the people have a right to vote whoever they want to form the government?
Najib and the Barisan ruling coalition do not have the birthright to Putrajaya forever, just because the Barisan coalition has been the ruling coalition since 1957.
This, together with what Najib was said to have told the 61st Umno General Assembly to defend Putrajaya at all costs even if it involved crushed bodies, have led many Malaysians to wonder if Najib has gone insane.
