I have just started reading "Delusions Of A Dictator: The Mind of Marcos as Revealed in His Secret Diaries" by William C. Rempel.
Delusions Of A Dictator |
I had bought the hardback for a steal at the local Popular Books Store several years ago, but left it collecting dust on the book-shelves after having read another book on Marcos "Waltzing With A Dictator" by Raymond Bonner.
Now, with the uprisings in the Middle-East against dictatorial regimes, I thought what better time to dust off the book and see for myself what goes on in the mind of a dictator.
Ferdinand Marcos, if you can recall, was the President of the Philippines from 1965-1986.
In 1972, to perpetuate his rule, he imposed martial law and gained notoriety as a dictator.
His wife, Imelda Marcos, herself became notorious as the Lady with 3000 pairs of shoes.
In 1986, President Marcos was forced out of office by what became known as the People's Power Revolution led by Corizon Aquino whose husband Benigno 'Ninoy" Aquino was gunned down as he stepped down from the plane frown exile in America in1983.
The murder of Beningno Aquino, Marcos's long-time nemesis, and blamed on the President, precipitated the dictator's downfall.
