Rabbit In, Tiger Out

In a week's time (3/2/2011), the tiger will exit the door and the rabbit will hop in to usher in the new lunar new year of the rabbit 2011.

It is that time of the year again when Chinese all over the world prepare to welcome the spring equinox. Shops stock up Chinese New Year goodies and frantic last minute shopping begins.

Chi Cheong Kai (Glutton's Street in Cantonese dialect) or otherwise known as Chinatown in Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur is abuzz with shoppers and lunar new year paraphernalia. (Unfortunately, Chi Cheong Kai has somewhat lost it Chinese character as many of the stalls are manned by foreigners now.)

The Kluang railway station coffee shop, now re-branded Kluang RailCoffee, is well known for its cuppa of coffee and the charcaol grilled piping hot buns oozing with butter and kaya...It used to attract standing-room only crowds. It still does, but the last time I was there it wasn't a good experience for me. The famous coffee had somewhat lost its oomph and even the buns...The shop has a long and noted history being first opened for business in 1938 and the place is now run by the 3rd generation LIm family. I hope the next time I return, the coffee would regain its oomph. Click to read more...
