Finally, Dr Mahathir has admitted to a failure. In his blog Chedet recently, he admitted that one of his failures as Prime Minister was his failure to rehabilitate and develop Kampung Baru.
He said among some of the reasons was that some Malay landowners demanded high prices for their properties which meant that the cost of development would be high and that Malays would find it hard to own business or residential properties there.
One interesting thing that he said was that even today, many Malays were not able to buy houses and shops alloted to them.
The question may be asked here as to why some 30 years after the NEP was launched as an affirmative action to help the Malays, they are still in such a situation.
Has the NEP been implemented properly to help the Malays?
Or has there been failure to implement the NEP properly?
