Is Burj Kalifa In Dubai The World's Tallest Building And Malaysia's Own Merdeka 118 Building The World's Second Tallest?

The Burj Kalifa building in Dubai is touted as the world's tallest building.

Malaysia's own Merdeka 118 building is said to be the world's second tallest building.

But I beg to differ.

The Burj Kalifa building is said to be the tallest at 830 meters in total height.

And Malaysia's Merdeka 118 building is said to be the world's second tallest building at a total height of 678 meters.

However, both the Burj Kalifa and Merdeka 118 buildings each has a tower spire.

In the case of the Burj Kalifa the tower spire measures 200 meters in height.

And the Merdeka 118 builing has a tower spire measuring 160 meters in height. (The Exchange 106 building nearby looks taller than Merdeka 118 building if Merdeka's tower spire is ignored)

Therefore, minus its tower spire the Burj Kalifa is 830-200 = 630 meters and our own Merdeka 118 building is 679-160= 519 meters.

In other words, minus the tower spire, the Burj Kalifa is 630 meters in height.

Merdeka 118 building minus its tower spire is 519 meters in height.

Whereas the Shanghai Tower in China is 632 meters without a tower spire.

The Shanghai Tower, in my humble view, should be seen as the world's tallest building.

The world's tallest twin tower building is still Malaysia's KLCC Petronas Twin Tower at 452 meters high.
