Big Brother Oh Big Brother!

If you thought that the idea of Big Brother watching you is a Victorian fiction, you better think again.
Sketch by Ordinary Malaysian

Efforts had been made in the past to legislate Big Brother into existence and in the recent past in, of all places, UK!

If it was in a banana republic then it would have been understandable. In fact, in a banana republic Big Brother does not need legislation.

Is UK trying to become a melon republic, whatever that means.

The last attempt by the Labour government met with huge opposition and the effort fizzled out.

Not to be daunted, the current government of David Cameron is trying their hands again to make it legal for them to check your e-mails, calls, messages and web browsing without a by your leave, all in the so-called name of fighting crimes and terrorism.

Fighting crimes and terrorism is all fine and good. Nobody is against it.

But aren't we getting a little paranoid and over-reaching by going it the easy and reprehensible way of snooping in your mail, calls and web browsing?

Is nothing sacred anymore? We might as well give them access to our bed rooms. Let them know how virile we are.

The argument by some parties and people that if you had nothing to hide, then you shouldn't be worried is so clever that it even makes Big Brother himself blush.

It is like saying that if you really have nothing to hide, you might as well show me your pecker.

Should I blush? Of course not, I have nothing to hide.

Brother oh Brother!
