As news comes in of the recovery of bodies from the ill fated Air Asia flight QZ8501, we grieve too with the grieving families.
It is always hard to see others suffer, harder still that there should be so little meaningful rhythm and rhyme to life, already so capricious and unfair.
It has been a horrible year for Malaysia, struck with three aircraft disasters, and now the worst monsoon floods to hit for a long time. We grieve too with the families who have lost loved ones to the floods.
Mankind and Bolehland are already facing many intractable problems that there is no need to add to the sum total by dragging god into the picture, attributing everything that happens to divine wrath.
We are living in the cyber age, but we still have stone age thinking, with people even suggesting fantastical solutions like legislating 'divine laws' to atone for our sins and get close to god.
We are responsible for our actions. People make mistakes. Accidents do happen. Nature too plays a part.
We too owe it to ourselves to respect nature and not aggravate matters through greed and avarice and a contemptuous disregard for the welfare of others.
Unless we ourselves wake up to own responsibilities, we will be drowning in more sorrows.
No amount of holier-than-thou hollering and conspicuous display of religious piety will save us then.
The Bolehland government needs to do a lot of soul searching too.
Nicely said, it has been horrible for Malaysia. We're looking forward to better things ahead, and a whole lot more tolerance and kindness

True, Duncan. Last year was annus horribilis! This year, can Bolehlanders hope for a change for the better? A lot will also depend on whether we give in to the voices of intolerance and bigotry. And whether the government of the day cared enough to put a brake to the growing extremism.
