Whereto Malaysia: Caught Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea!

Malaysians who are looking for a critically needed change of government after more than half a century of Barisan rule under Umno, are now caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Damned if we do and damned if we don't.

The devil is of course Umno, whom even their former president says is the devil.  But I disagree with Mahathir that the opposition Pakatan is the unknown angel.

The opposition looks more like the non attractive proposal than an angel.

Now, don't get me wrong. I am all for the opposition, but Pas looks like spoiling everything for us Malaysians who want a change of government but do not trust the Islamic party.

Even now, Pas is trying to implement hudud the backdoor way. Enforcing segregation of the sexes in the cinema and supermarket queue. They have also been issuing summons to unisex saloon owners in Kelantan and summons on non-Muslim couples for 'indecent behaviour'

What will happen when Pakatan wrests Putrajaya from Barisan?

Pas can promise that hudud won't apply to non-Muslims. They can say anything they like, but we aren't fooled. Just look at what is happening in Kelantan. You can't have two different sets of  law for the same offence anyway.

Pas apologists argue that there is nothing to fear. That Pas cannot unilaterally implement hudud without their other coalition partners DAP and PKR agreeing to it, and that there is no way that DAP will give its blessings to its implementation.

That is being more than a little naive and perhaps self-deluding. We are talking of high stakes here. We are talking about the seat of the federal government itself, not of state government.

It will be hard for DAP not to go along with Pas's then, on pain of Pas leaving the coalition and scampering scuppering all the hard work to wrest the seat of federal government from 55 + years of Umno led Barisan rule.

Even now, DAP just keeps quiet about what is happening in Kelantan. Not a single word from them.

And of course, you can't expect PKR to object to hudud for fear of being seen to be against Islam.

Now it seems that the devil may yet rule for another 50 more years!

Why must Malaysians who just want a better life, be left with a Hobson's choice?

Kluang was a sleepy hollow, but is fast becoming a bustling town. You can't miss the bust-shaped gunung Lambak lording over the place and the town is well known for its tv brand coffee powder

Kluang RailCoffee
The Kluang railway station coffee shop, now re-branded Kluang RailCoffee, is well known for its cuppa of coffee and the charcaol grilled piping hot buns oozing with butter and kaya...It used to attract standing-room only crowds. It still does, but the last time I was there it wasn't a good experience for me. The famous coffee had somewhat lost its oomph and even the buns...The shop has a long and noted history being first opened for business in 1938 and the place is now run by the 3rd generation LIm family. I hope the next time I return, the coffee would regain its oomph. Click to read more...
