UMNO, What Are You Saying? - No Cows?

The UMNO General Assembly 2011 has just ended.

Instead of telling the nation what it plans to do, as the largest and dominant partner in the ruling Barisan coalition (should the coalition win again in the coming general election) UMNO had spent all its time bashing and demonising the opposition coalition Pakatan, especially the DAP.

Trying to score points with the Malay electorate by demonising DAP is not going to do the trick this time around.

The Malay electorate are getting better informed and more savvy nowadays. Nobody is going to believe UMNO's claim that should the opposition coalition Pakatan wrest Parliament from Barisan for the first time in Malaysian history in the coming 13th general election, which many expect PM Najib to call for soon, the Malays will lose their preeminent political position, their religion or that the institution of royalty will be done away with.

Nobody talked about corruption which is getting worse here from 56th position last year in the Transparency Corruption Perception index to 60th in the latest index for 2011, worse than Namibia at 58th!

Nobody for example, talked about  "cowgate".

Instead, Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, the Women, Family and Community Development Minister whose family had been awarded the National Feedlot Project to develop Malaysia's bovine industry, shrilly challenged Anwar's wife, who is the President of Parti Keadilan, to resign because her husband had been charged for sodomy and is awaiting the court's decision,

Many were in fact expecting Shahrizat herself to resign over the "cowgate" instead.

The rest of the time were spent by some delegates in spouting colourful words and phrases at the opposition coalition - words like "pondan", "bapok" and "tiada telur" or "sissy". "transvestites" or "no balls" in English.

Ah, so funny and bankrupt of ideas.

With such characters around, where will Malaysia head to if UMNO and the Barisan continue to run the country?

I had written a post earlier where I had hoped that America's cosying up to Myanmar so soon was not for the wrong reason(s). That woman on the right deserves a free and democratic Myanmar. Heck, she deserves to be the leader of the  country!
